Explore a unique culture: Sikkim's Lachung will floor you with its colourful & vibrant culture
A vibrant culture
Region: Lachung, Sikkim
The picturesque mountain village of Lachung, is situated at a height of 8,610 feet. Tourists can spot snow-capped mountain peaks, breathtaking waterfalls, sparkling streams and apple orchards. Sprawled across the banks of the Lachung River, which slices the village in two, Lachung is famous for its apples, peaches and apricots. Head to the Lachung Gompa built around 1880, the monastery is beautiful as it is situated amidst apple orchards. Take some time off and head to the handicraft centre which has exquisitely woven rugs and blankets.

The reason, Lachung is an uber-chic destination is because it still retains its distinctive culture and tradition, including the unique system of self governance called Zumsa. In this system all local disputes are settled by a totally representative body of the village which is headed by an elected Pipon.
