Incredible carnival costumes, pageantry and revelry remain the highlight of the biggest annual festival involving merry-making in the streets of Kingston, which is said to be the heartbeat of Jamaica. In its 29th year, the event has grown dramatically, attracting tourists and spectators from around the world who congregate over the carnival weeks and line up the route for the final parade. Bacchanal carnival lasts for several weeks starting from February through to April every year. There is always a theme for the annual celebrations. The carnival events are fun and worth attending, but the real magic of Bacchanal is that the whole atmosphere remains charged up and celebratory during the festival months. This colourful festival begins in February and culminates in a large parade with wonderful costumes the Sunday after Easter.
