CHAMPAKKULAM (SNAKE) BOAT RACE When: July 11, 2014 Where: Kerala

On this day the gracefully flowing waters of the Pamba become a track. In Kerala, the season of boat races starts with the renowned Champakkulam Moolam Vallam Kali. The festival takes place at Champakkulam, a serene village in Alleppey district. As the sun comes straight on top of all gathered, boats in various categories like the Chundan, Veppu, Iruttu Kuthi, Churulan and others assemble at the starting point of the race.

As the oarsmen set the pace of their boats with oars striking the placid waters of River Pamba the spectatorsf spirit soar in sheer excitement. Snake boat race is often considered as the ultimate test of endurance, speed and skill.

EDINBURGH FILM FESTIVAL 2014 When: June 17- 28, 2014 Where: Edinburgh, Scotland

Established in 1947, the Edinburgh Film Festival delivers a range of feature-length films and documentaries as well as short films, animations and music videos along with fiction films and experimental work from across the world. The Illusionist, a nostalgic animation set largely in Edinburgh, will be the opening film at the Festival Theatre presenting the work of Sylvain Chomet.

WEST CORK LITERARY FESTIVAL When: July 6 -12, 2014 Where: Munster, Ireland

Imagine witnessing a literary festival in a castle? West Cork Literary Festival is all set to host its annual literary fest in Munster. Apart from panel discussions, author talks and book launches, the festival will host three day workshops in Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai. These workshops cover such subjects as Creative Writing, Poetry for beginners, Childrenfs Fiction and more.

There are free readings in Bantry Library and Bookshop, afternoon seminars, book launches, coffee and interactive events, sessions with an Editor in Residence and the opportunity for Munster novelists to enter the JG Farrell Award.
