Mohács is well known for its six-day Busó Carnival along with a wide range of tourist attractions due to its vicinity to the city of Pécs (about 40kms away). Mohacs is the ideal location to start excursions in famous Duna (Danube)-Dráva National Park.

The annual tradition of the carnival brings thousands of people to this place on Danube, to see the wonderful masks, costumes, dances and parades. The local people – known as Busós – dress up in their traditional wooden masks and costumes. They cross the Danube to burn ‘the coffin of winter’ on a bonfire in the main square of Mohács. The festival has been included on UNESCO’s list of Cultural and Spiritual Heritage.

Today, visitors can admire the tradition of this mask carnival not only in February or March, but all year-round, as new museums have opened and lots of attractions are dedicated to this major annual event.
