JAIPUR: Domestic tourists inflow in Rajasthan has increased by eight per cent this year, indicating a good start of the tourism season in the desert state, authorities said today.

There is distinct increase in the number of domestic tourists from January to September 2014 from 266.13 lakhs (an increase of 8. 01 per cent) against 246.40 lakhs in the corresponding period last year, Tourism Director Vikram Singh said.

There has been an increase in the number of the arrivals of the foreign tourists as well from January to September this year - 10.20 lakhs (an increase of 8.69 per cent) from 9.38 lakhs in the corresponding period last year, he said.

Trends indicated a good days for the tourism season in the state, which began from October, Singh said.

Taking September as a standalone month too, he said, there has been a perceptible increase in the number of tourists both domestic and foreign.

For instance, against an arrival of 68.04 lakhs domestic tourists last year, in 2014 there have been 73. 15 lakhs (an increase of 7.52 per cent) domestic tourists.

Similarly, the foreign tourist arrivals have also shown and increase with 84.72 thousand last year to 90.87 thousand (an increase of 7. 26 per cent) in the year 2014.
