Zadar
Region:
Croatia

The city is well-known for the architectural creation of Croatian architect Nikola Bašic called Sea Organ, which is situated on the western end of Zadar’s Riva. The organ looks like a series of broad steps leading down into the water. The stairs stretch for about 70 metres along the coast, under them; the waves push air through 35 underwater pipes which play seven chords of five tones. As the sea is always shifting and changing, the natural musical instrument never sounds exactly the same twice. Each sound one hears is completely unique.

A pleasant walk along the ancient cobbled lanes of the old town will introduce one to its rich history and modern way of life. Some of the attractions in Zadar include the church of St. Donat, built in the 9th century. Other interesting sites include, Kalelarga Street, cathedral St. Stošije and Church St. Krševana, which are prime examples of Romanesque architecture in Croatia. It is also known as a city of various events that makes it one of the most interesting and attractive places to visit.
