Chadar Trek in Ladakh is known as one of the most amazing treks one can undertake.

Although the length and duration of the trek varies, it involves walking on the frozen Zanskar River. Owing to temperature dropping to 25-30 degrees below zero in winter, the Zanskar freezes to form a white blanket of ice (called chadar) as it snakes its way through the barren canyons of Ladakh or Western Himalayas to eventually merge into the Indus River.

The trek offers some beautiful insights along into the life of locals from Zanskar. For them, the chadar trek is the only way of connecting to Leh or outside world during the harsh winters.

Once here, you too can join the Ladakhi locals as they sing songs sitting around a bonfire. There are reputed tour agencies companies offering guided Chadar treks. And many Indians participate in it every year.
