Tourists often refer to Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh as the hidden Grand Canyon of India.

Located 15 kms from Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, Gandikota is a village on the bank of the River Pennar. The best time to visit Gandikota is during the winter months, December to February.

GANDIKOTA FORT: The fort of Gandikota is formed between the Erramala range of hills, also known as Gandikota Hills and the River Pennar that flows at its foot, reducing its width to a mere 300 ft. Situated amidst beautiful landscapes and wild forests, it is endowed with vast natural resources. There are two temples and one masjid inside the fort complex. Near the Masjid, there is a pond called as the Kathula Koneru also known as Pond of Swords. Legend has it, that the pond was used by the Gandikota kings to wash their swords after the war. The fort complex also has beautiful gardens. Most adventure junkies camp along the banks of the River Pennar.

PLACES OF INTEREST: Located 61 kms from the fort, Belum Caves is often visited by tourists. These caves are known for its stalactite and stalagmite formations. They have long passages, spacious chambers, fresh water galleries and siphons. It is a natural underground cave formed by the constant flow of underground water. Do take your camera along!
