Grec Festival 2015

- Barcelona's biggest cultural festival features dance, theatre, music and circus staged in venues all around the city. Inaugurated in 1976 with the aim of showcasing Catalan creativity, its basic tenet remains the same, while the festival has expanded to include more international acts. If you can, go and see an event at the Teatre Grec, where the festival originated. A Greek-style amphitheatre built on the site of a disused quarry for the city's 1929 Universal Exhibition, it's a magical setting for seeing a performance on a balmy July night.


Independence Day celebrations

- This nationwide public holiday is marked throughout the country with celebrations a plenty. Families gather together, and parties and live music pop up everywhere. The annual event marks the date July 9, 1816, when the Congress of Tucuman passed a resolution declaring Argentina's independence from Spain.


The Champakulam Boat Race

Where: Pampa River, Kerala

- The Champakulam Boat Race is the oldest snake boat race of Kerala. It's also the first boat race of the season. A stunning procession is enacted prior to the race taking place. It features exotic water floats, boats decorated with colorful parasols, and performing artists.


Amarnath Yatra

- The famous Amarnath cave temple, one of the top caves in India, houses a Shiva lingam made out of ice. It's one of the toughest pilgrimages in India to visit it. Pilgrims must battle inclement weather, which makes the track slippery and dangerous, as well as very high altitude.

Dree Festival

Where: Arunachal Pradesh

- Dree is an agricultural festival of the Apatani tribe. It's celebrated by sacrificial offerings and prayers to the Gods who protect the crops. Folk songs, traditional dances, and other cultural performances have also become a part of the modern-day festivities.
