Recently, international consulting firm Mercer rated Vienna the most livable city in the world, eighth time in a row it had topped the charts.

MUMBAI: Austrian capital Vienna has witnessed a 28 per cent rise in tourist arrivals from India in calendar year 2016. In a statement, Vienna Tourist Board said that travellers from India contributed to 1.15 lakh overnight stays in 2016, which was a 28 per cent increase from the previous year.

Home to legendary composers like Mozart and Beethoven, Vienna attracts a lot of music lovers from India. The metropolis also draws honeymooners and conference attendees from the South Asian country.

The board expects a growth of at least 20 per cent in Indian tourists this calendar. The expectations is on the back of Indians rising income and their increasing aspirations to travel overseas.

"Vienna provides the experiences of a metropolis without the stress factors of a big city. The capital looks forward to welcoming 20-30 per cent more young Indian travellers in 2017," said Vienna Tourist Board’s public relations manager Isabella Rauter.

Recently, international consulting firm Mercer rated Vienna the most livable city in the world. This was the eighth time in a row Austria’s federal capital had topped the charts.
