Directed by Jared Bush along with Byron Howard, the film opened in cinemas on November 26, 2025 after premiering earlier at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Since then it has turned into one of the biggest animated releases ever, crossing about $1.861 billion globally and landing among the highest-grossing films of all time.
When and where to watch Zootopia 2 online
The film will start streaming on Disney+ from March 11, 2026. In India, viewers will be able to watch it on JioHotstar, where the film has been listed for a March 13 release.While announcing the streaming premiere, the platform shared a promotional message that read, "Wake up, Hopps and Wilde stans, the dream team is back! Zootopia 2 is coming home to Disney+ on March 11."
The OTT release comes after the movie’s strong theatrical performance worldwide and its popularity across different markets, including India where it also released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions.
Storyline of the sequel
The sequel once again follows the adventures of rookie-turned-experienced police officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Now official partners at the Zootopia Police Department, they find themselves caught in a complicated investigation.During a raid linked to a smuggling operation, the two discover clues pointing toward a mysterious reptile named Gary De'Snake. As the investigation moves forward, they realise the case may connect to something much bigger involving powerful groups in the city.
The story eventually takes them into hidden corners of the animal metropolis — including the Marsh Market and other unfamiliar zones — where they must work undercover and uncover secrets tied to the city's past.
Cast and Box Office
The sequel brings back several familiar voices, with Ginnifer Goodwin returning as Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman reprising his role as Nick Wilde. New additions to the cast include Ke Huy Quan as Gary De'Snake, along with Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, Quinta Brunson, and Danny Trejo. Several actors from the first film, including Idris Elba, also return, and the Hindi version features Shraddha Kapoor voicing Judy Hopps.Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, the film became a major box office hit, grossing $1.861 billion worldwide and ranking among the highest-earning animated films ever. It received positive reviews from critics, won Best Animated Feature at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, and has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards.
