Zomato employee leaves laptop open. Colleagues hijack it for wedding prank!

In a lighthearted reminder about the importance of securing your laptop, a Zomato employee became the unwitting star of a workplace prank that has since taken social media by storm. Niharika, a member of Zomato’s strategy team based in Gurgaon, learned this lesson when her colleagues used her Slack account to broadcast a fake wedding announcement across the office.

The prank unfolded when Niharika left her laptop unattended. Her colleagues seized the opportunity to craft a humorous message that appeared to come from her. The message, which was sent to an entire Slack channel, read: “Hey guys, sharing a life update, getting married in February. Please keep 5 PM free for a small brownie party.”



Niharika later shared a screenshot of the prank on X (formerly Twitter), along with a cautionary note: “Never leave your laptop open at work.” The post quickly gained traction, amassing over 100,000 views and eliciting a wave of reactions from amused users.

The prank has sparked nostalgia and laughter among many. One user, Naresh Silla, shared, “Lol, this happened with me as well. My colleagues even sent an email.” Similarly, Veni Gupta reminisced, “They used to do this at my first job too! If we left our laptop unattended, colleagues would prank each other like this. It was used as a strategy to ensure we locked our laptops and protected client data. It worked really well in shaping habits.”
