Zakir Khan, one of India’s most loved stand-up comedians, has announced that he will be stepping back from his hectic touring schedule after battling health issues for nearly a year. The 38-year-old performer shared the update through Instagram on Saturday, calling it a decision he has postponed for too long.

‘I have been unwell for a year’

In his post, Khan opened up about the toll of constant travel, late nights, and packed shows. “I’ve been touring for the last ten years. Though I am extremely blessed to receive your love and affection, touring this extensively is not good and very healthy. Two to three shows in a day, sleepless nights, early morning flights and irregular meals have taken a toll,” he wrote, adding, “I’ve been unwell for a year, but I had to work because it was important to do at that time.” (Source: Instagram story via Zakir Khan’s announcement)

Choosing health over hustle

While Khan stressed his love for performing live, he admitted it was time to pause. “I absolutely love being on stage, but I’ll have to take a break now. I don’t wish to do so but I was ignoring this for a year now. Before it’s too late, I better take it now,” he said. He explained that doctors had advised him to cut back after recording his upcoming comedy special.

Despite his break, Khan confirmed he will still perform a reduced number of shows during his India tour titled Papa Yaar, beginning October 24 and running until January 11. Cities on the lineup include Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Bhopal, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Mangalore. However, Indore, one of his strongholds, is off the list this year. Khan urged Indore fans to catch him in nearby Bhopal instead.

A milestone before the pause

The announcement comes shortly after Khan made history as the first Hindi stand-up comedian to perform in Hindi at New York’s Times Square, where he received standing ovations. The achievement underscored his rising global influence, making his sudden decision to pause touring all the more striking.

The comedian himself assured fans that the break is temporary and necessary. If his track record is anything to go by, the pause could set the stage for a stronger, more refreshed comeback.
