Zaha Hadid’s new skyscraper in Melbourne looks like an earplug!
By curving segments of the skyscraper inward at certain points, it improves the building's energy efficiency and provides extra square footage.

In partnership with Plus Architecture, the new Hadid-designed skyscraper hopes to reshape the small city's skyline. The release describes a signature element of the design as "a series of smaller stacked vases" which produces an almost ribbed form factor.
By curving segments of the skyscraper inward at certain points, that stack both improves the building's energy efficiency and provides extra square footage for green space outdoors. But don't you think it looks like something different? It looks like a high-quality silicone ear plug — one of the slightly flatter ear plugs.
The cups of silicone that make up high-quality earplugs are stacked in such a way that they trap sound out while holding still in your ear canal. The building's equivalent to the earplugs' silicone is a filigree that wraps around the building.
