MUMBAI: Warner Bros’ much awaited ‘Justice League Snyder Cut’ has already become a hit on transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platform BMS Stream as it has registered over 25,800 pre-bookings for the film as of 8 am.

As per the company, the movie, which is set to release on the platform today at 12:31 pm, surpassed the streams of all previous movies on BMS Stream, including total streams for ‘Tenet’ on the platform.

BMS Stream is the home-grown service launched by India’s largest movie and events ticketing service BookMyShow last month.

“The fact that India finally has a chance and a level playing field to utilise the full potential of a TVOD window for the first time, is indeed an extremely healthy sign for both the movie industry and the way we consume films in the country,” said Ashish Saksena, COOCinemas, BookMyShow.

Experts feel that it was the lack of the option of a compelling TVOD model, which resulted in Indian films not opting for this window so far and as cinema halls were shut, many films directly moved to OTT services.

“With this model (TVOD) now available in India at scale through BookMyShow Stream, backed by a massive loyal customer base and strong partnerships with global and Indian production houses already in place, there is no better time than now to exploit this additional window to ensure films in the country eke out maximum bang for the buck,” Saksena added.

In less than 45 days, BMS Stream has added 42 premiere and exclusive titles. The initial success of BMS Stream has also led to production houses and distribution houses to extend the TVOD window- for example ‘Wonder Woman’ – thus allowing it to remain longer on BMS Stream and extending the time taken to move to the next window.

Saksena added that ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ is amongst several forthcoming films that will now make their way to Indian audiences, bringing about both an additional revenue stream for studios as well as an extension of the window and the film’s lifecycle.

“While it is early days for the TVOD model here as Indian films slowly get used to adopting and making complete use of this window, we believe the value that this model unlocks is unlikely to remain ignored for long. As the movie business picks up in the country and more films release through this window on BookMyShow Stream, we are hopeful that it will steadily increase,” Saksena summed up.
