It's officially over. Cricket sensation Yuzvendra Chahal and his spouse, Dhanashree Verma, have legally dissolved their marriage following a ruling by a Mumbai court on Thursday. Chahal’s legal representative, Advocate Nitin Kumar Gupta, confirmed the news to ANI, stating that the judiciary had approved the couple’s mutual request for divorce.

"The court has officially sanctioned the divorce decree. Their joint application has been acknowledged, and they are no longer legally bound as husband and wife," Gupta declared in an official statement.

Chahal, a celebrated leg-spinner for the Indian cricket team, and Dhanashree, a renowned choreographer and digital influencer, exchanged vows in December 2020. Over recent months, widespread speculation regarding tensions in their marital relationship had surfaced across social media platforms. However, neither party publicly commented on the conjectures.

Talk of their possible separation gained momentum earlier this year when Chahal, who is now aligned with Punjab Kings in the IPL, erased all images featuring Dhanashree from his Instagram profile. In contrast, Dhanashree, who initially archived their pictures, later reinstated them, maintaining their presence on her account. By February, reports surfaced indicating that the couple had commenced divorce proceedings, with the case undergoing judicial review.

Chahal, considered one of the costliest spinners in the Indian Premier League’s 2025 season with an Rs 18 crore contract, and Dhanashree, a YouTuber, accomplished dance choreographer, and professional dentist, initially got engaged on August 8, 2020. Their wedding, a private ceremony, took place on December 22, 2020, in Gurgaon. Over time, they became one of the most admired duos on social media, frequently sharing glimpses of their personal moments together.

During an episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11, Dhanashree recounted how they first formed a connection. She shared that during the nationwide lockdown, when cricket tournaments were temporarily halted and players remained confined to their residences, Chahal sought to enhance his dancing skills. He stumbled upon her instructional videos online and reached out to her for lessons. She readily agreed to tutor him, and their bond gradually strengthened from that point onward.

Their relationship allegedly encountered difficulties, ultimately resulting in their separation in June 2022. Reports indicate that they have been living apart for more than two and a half years.

Having lived separately for an extended period, the duo proceeded with divorce proceedings in early 2025, petitioning the court to waive the compulsory six-month reconciliation phase. However, their request for a fast-tracked divorce was declined on February 20, as Chahal had yet to fulfill the agreed-upon alimony settlement.
