Young Sherlock will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 4, 2026. The show will be available for streaming in India and across more than 240 countries and territories. All eight episodes will drop on the same day, so viewers can watch the full season at once.Subscribers can stream it directly on Prime Video.
What is the show about?
Inspired by Andrew Lane’s 2010 novel Young Sherlock Holmes, the series is set in the 1870s and follows a 19-year-old Sherlock at Oxford University. Portrayed as impulsive and unpolished, he finds himself entangled in a murder case and begins investigating to clear his name, marking the start of his first major mystery.As the case unfolds, it reveals a larger conspiracy that shapes his future and introduces his first encounter with James Moriarty, played by Dónal Finn. The story also traces the early development of his skills, from martial arts training and violin practice to his first meeting with John Watson, laying the groundwork for their legendary partnership.
Cast and filming details
Along with Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Sherlock and Dónal Finn as Moriarty, the show features a strong supporting cast. Colin Firth plays Sir Bucephalus Hodge. Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone appear as Sherlock’s parents. Max Irons takes on the role of Mycroft Holmes, while Zine Tseng plays Princess Gulun Shou’an.The series has been created by Matthew Parkhill, who also works as showrunner and executive producer. It is backed by Motive Pictures. Guy Ritchie directed the first two episodes and remains closely involved with the project.
Filming took place across several locations in the UK and Spain. Bristol was used to recreate Oxford, while other scenes were shot in Cardiff, London and Somerset. In Spain, parts of the series were filmed in Jerez and Seville.
With its period setting, action-driven tone and focus on a younger, flawed Sherlock, the show aims to present a fresh take on a familiar character. With eight episodes arriving together on March 4, fans of mystery dramas have a clear date to mark on their calendars.
