Yeelight is a stand-alone brand that is part of the Xiaomi ecosystem group of companies. The company wants to get their smart lighting products here on their own — independently of Xiaomi. We received two of their products for review: the Aurora Lightstrip Plus and Candela Lamp.
The Aurora Lightstrip is a flexible, 2-meter LED strip that can be easily stuck on most surfaces (it has an adhesive layer on the back). Once you have placed it exactly where you want, connect it to power and you can switch it on/off via the power button. The strip is bright and supports 16 million colours (selectable through the app) and you can even sync it to change colours along with the music being played for a party effect. We liked that it can easily be extended from 2 to 10 meters by purchasing extension strips (Rs 1,199 on Amazon). We found it to be ideal to place behind your TV/monitor as bias lighting or behind your furniture or alcove to use as mood lighting. You can even set it up with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for voice control which is always a welcome feature.
The Candela Lamp is more like comfort or mood lighting. It has a metal base with a rotatable glass top inside which is the LED light source. It’s called Candela because the light has a colour temperature of 1800K (very warm, similar to candlelight). You can power the lamp on/off as well as adjust the brightness by just rotating the glass section. It has a built-in battery (8 hour continuous usage) and it charges using microUSB. In your bedroom, you can use it as a bedside lamp (not for reading, but mood lighting) or just as a night lamp. If you purchase multiple Candela Lamps, you can group them together in the app and control them simultaneously.
While both products are completely different, what they have in common is the smartphone app control (iOS and Android). You install the Yeelight app, select the product you want to add and it will guide you through the connection process. It took us less than 5 minutes to have both the products up and ready. The app gives you control over brightness, colours (on the lightstrip), light schedules and pattern lighting effects.

We were impressed by the build quality as well as the performance of both the products. At the time of writing, the Aurora LightStrip is priced at Rs 3,299. Similar lightstrips from Philips are Rs 5,800 which makes the Yeelight seems well priced. As for the Candela Lamp, it is for Rs 4,999 on Amazon India and there is no other similar product at the moment.
