Yami Gautam reveals the traditional haldi and multani mitti face pack she calls “magic” for her skin.

Ever since she first appeared in Chand Ke Paar Chalo, Yami Gautam left viewers in enchanted with her beauty, dazzling smile and radiant skin. From her television days to silver-screen, the actress continues to opt for minimal-makeup that focuses on her natural features. However, her glowing skin has not come without its challenges. In an old post, the actress had admitted about living with Keratosis Pilaris, a skin condition she said has "no cure". So, how does she manage her skincare, despite her skin condition?

Just like her makeup, Yami believes in simplicity even when it comes to skincare. It includes a humble kitchen staple she calls “magic.”

Yami Gautam swears by this traditional skincare ingredient

For Gautam, skincare does not necessarily have to involve an elaborate routine or expensive products. The actress has previously spoken about her fondness for haldi, describing it as an old-school ingredient with a deeper traditional significance. When asked about a remedy she swears by, Gautam said, “Sacchi bataun? Haldi.”

Explaining why turmeric continues to hold a special place in her routine, the actress said the ingredient is traditionally considered pure and auspicious. She also described haldi as “shubh” and said, “I want to get this tradition back,” as reported by Indian Express.

Yami Gautam reveals her haldi and multani mitti experience

Gautam has also shared how she experimented with the traditional ingredient while shooting Haq. Speaking with MirchiPunjab, the actress revealed that her skin is “really sensitive.” During the film’s haldi ceremony, she decided to take the opportunity to try the ingredient herself. “Main haldi lagati hun,” she recalled saying, explaining that she wanted to see what would happen.

The actress said she mixed a little multani mitti with haldi and even had before-and-after images that she planned to reveal later. According to Gautam, the combination “really worked like magic.” “For me, haldi is magic,” she said, adding that she is a fan of the ingredient and “swear[s] by it.”

What does turmeric do for the skin?

Turmeric has also been studied for its potential skin-related properties. As per Healthline, turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components that may help provide the skin with glow and lustre. Healthline also notes that turmeric may help revive the skin and bring out its natural glow. One suggested at-home turmeric mask combines small amounts of Greek yogurt, honey and turmeric, which can be applied to the face for around 15 minutes before being washed off with water.

However, individual skin reactions can vary, particularly for people with sensitive skin.

How to make Yami Gautam-inspired multani mitti and turmeric face pack

If you want to recreate the simple combination Gautam spoke about, the face pack requires just a few ingredients:

- 1 tbsp multani mitti

- ¼ tsp turmeric or haldi

- 1–2 tsp plain water or rose water

- A little plain yogurt, optional, if your skin tolerates it

Mix all the ingredients until you get a smooth paste. Apply a thin layer over the face, avoiding the corners of the eyes, and leave it on for around 5-10 minutes. Instead of letting the face pack to dry out completely, you can rinse it off right after 10 minutes. This will also prevent the skin from turning yellow. Make sure to follow it up with a moisturiser.

Those with sensitive skin should patch-test the mixture before applying it to the face. If burning, redness or itching occurs, wash it off and discontinue use.
