Yami Gautam opens up about embracing her skin condition and choosing to accept her natural appearance.

Yami Gautam has often let her work do the talking. The actress often chooses strong scripts that brings out her skills and focuses on her versatality. But apart from her movies and success, the actress also has insecurities, which he addressed some time back. From embracing her natural skin texture to speaking openly about the skin condition that has "no cure" the actress once let go of her inhibitions and very candidly offered a refreshing perspective on beauty. She decided to stop hiding behind airbrushed photos and instead flaunt what she used to previously consider her "flaw".

Yami Gautam opens up about her skin condition

The Haq actress previously took to Instagram to speak about her experience with Keratosis Pilaris, a condition that causes tiny bumps on the skin. She recalled a photoshoot when she realised that the photographs were about to undergo post-production, which could have concealed the condition. Instead of agreeing to have her skin altered, she questioned why she could not simply embrace it. Gautam wrote about telling herself to “embrace this fact” and accept it enough to be okay with it.

The actress explained that she had developed the condition during her teenage years and said there was “still no cure for it.” After dealing with it for years, she said she finally decided to let go of her fears and insecurities and accept her perceived “flaws” wholeheartedly.

Yami Gautam chooses not to airbrush her skin

For Gautam, the decision was also about refusing to let conventional beauty standards dictate how she should appear in photographs. She revealed that she did not want to airbrush her skin or smooth out her under-eye area. She also joked about not wanting to make her waist look “a tiny bit more” shaped. Despite leaving those perceived imperfections untouched, Gautam concluded that she still felt beautiful.

What is Keratosis Pilaris?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Keratosis Pilaris is a benign, or non-harmful, skin condition that appears as small bumps on the skin. The bumps can develop around hair follicles and are caused by excess keratin, a protein that helps form the hair, nails and outer layer of the skin, or epidermis. The bumps may appear red, brown or white, or may be similar in colour to the surrounding skin. The condition is also commonly referred to as KP or “chicken skin” because of its resemblance to goose bumps.

Keratosis Pilaris most commonly appears on the upper arms, although it can occur on other areas of the body that contain hair follicles, as per the Cleveland Clinic.
