Redmi 2 is the successor the aging Redmi 1s. It comes with a 4.7-inch IPS HD display (1280 x 720 pixels) in a slimmer and lighter design. The hardware has also been updated to meet the ever-increasing competition in the price range. Redmi 2 now comes with the new 64-bit 1.2Ghz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. However, India users get the version with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. Xiaomi had announced an updated Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage in China a few months back, but it has not been launched here.
The dual SIM device supports 4G on both slots – making it one of the cheapest dual SIM phones with 4G connectivity. You get the new MiUi 6 interface based on Android 4.4 out of the box. The phone comes with dual cameras – 8MP rear with LED flash and 2MP front camera for selfies and a larger 2,200mAh battery. Other features remain unchanged – USB host support, WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and radio.
