WW II Indian warrior Sovehu Nienu celebrates 100th birthday

Nienu fought the WW-II and was honoured with six gallantry awards in recognition of his service and bravery against the allied forces.

KOHIMA: Having survived the bloody World War-II as a soldier of 1st Assam Regiment, Sovehu Nienu of Phek village today celebrated his 100th Birthday in the village at Phek district of Nagaland.

On the occasion, Lt Col B Singh, 2nd in Command of 46 Assam Rifles released the biography of World War-II veteran Sovehu Nienu in presence of former Minister and MLA Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu.

A brief history of Sovehu was shared by Chovose Nienu, his eldest son.

He said that his father joined the 1st Assam Regiment in 1941 and retired in 1948 as the Havildar.

He fought the WW-II and was honoured with six gallantry awards in recognition of his service and bravery against the allied forces.

Messages of Nagaland Governor P B Acharya and Chief Minister T R Zeliang were also read out by the chairman of the celebration Kupota Khesoh.
