Expanding on this, Luke Coutinho highlighted the role of what he calls a ‘magic molecule’ aka nitric oxide, which plays a crucial role in cardiovascular health. Beetroot is naturally rich in nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide. This molecule acts as a powerful vasodilator, meaning it helps relax and widen blood vessels. As a result, it supports better blood flow and naturally aids in lowering blood pressure. Improved circulation ensures that oxygen and nutrients are delivered more efficiently throughout the body, reducing strain on the heart.
Luke Coutinho further noted that nitric oxide may also help prevent the buildup of plaque in arteries, thereby lowering the risk of atherosclerosis. Additionally, it plays a role in reducing the chances of blood clot formation, one of the key triggers behind severe cardiac events. To make the most of these benefits, Coutinho suggested a simple drink, often referred to as a ‘Heart Beet Blast.’
Luke Coutinho’s beetroot juice recipe
The preparation requires you to peel and chop the beetroot and ginger, blend them together with lemon juice and black pepper, and either consume them as is for added fibre or strain them for a smoother texture. Luke Coutinho recommends having around 200 to 500 ml of this drink daily as part of a balanced lifestyle.
