Travelling solo “I have travelled solo to several places, but I usually have friends wherever I visit. The first time I travelled solo to a country where I didn’t know anybody was Colombia. It was then that I discovered I have the ability to mix with the locals, try new things, indulge in another culture. I ended up living with a Colombian family, which also made me understand so much about their lifestyles, cultures, traditions, and even the country. “Solo travel gives one the freedom to do what they want, to go with the flow. One need not have a firm plan in place, and that’s how one can explore the vibe of a country.”
Stranger turns lifelong friend “While travelling solo in Colombia, I made a friend for life. I met Carlos at a bar, where I was sitting and watching football. It was surreal to connect with a stranger, but he showed me so much a b o u t t he loc a l culture, and even took me around. I invited him over and he’s also been to India. Whenever I return to Colombia, I make sure to spend some time with him.”
Siddharth Kasliwal in Iceland. A trip gone wrong “As an avid traveller, you have to keep an open mind and be ready to explore. However, I felt odd in Slovakia. I couldn’t relate to the people, or the way I was being treated and spoken to, be it at restaurants or in and around the country. So much so that I took the decision to cut our trip short and left the country. It taught me that it is okay to take a stand, and that if one does not like the vibe of a place, one isn’t obligated to stay.”
A city I’d love to call home “New York. It actually feels like home, as I spend all my summers there. I spent a lot of time in New York with my father as a teenager. Those are memories that will last a lifetime.”
On my bucket list “There are many countries on my bucket list, but mainly Mongolia and Georgia — for the horseback riding, and hiking trails, respectively.”

Kasliwal has Mongolia on his bucket list for the horseback riding. Luxury holiday “The most luxurious holiday of my life was in Morocco, as I was a guest of the royal family. We stayed at the Royal Mansour Palace. From the world’s best spas to buffet spreads fit for a king, in the truest of senses, it was overwhelming. The main purpose was to rest and relax, and that is exactly what we did.”
Ideal travel companion “Always, my brother, Samarth.”
