Talent will bloom in the desert, hopes Mithali Raj.
Encouraged by the successful organisation of the premier league cricket tournament in the UAE, the BCCI is reportedly considering holding a Women’s T20 challenge in the Gulf in November. India’s ODI captain Mithali Raj believes it could prove to be a major shot in the arm for the development of the women’s sport in the country.

“It will give us the benefit of unearthing talent. Once the franchises get involved, they hunt talent for their teams. It’ll be the same for the women’s team as well. It will give young girls a platform to shine,” Raj said.

To explain her point, she cited the example of Shafali Verma. “If not for the women’s challenger trophy that happened (earlier this year), we wouldn’t have known about her talent. She was then picked for the T20 World Cup on the basis of that platform,” Raj said.
