In a Substack post published days after the incident, Alvarez asked people to hear her side before judging her marriage. “Before you decide what our marriage looks like, I would like you to hear from the woman you’re defending,” she wrote, according to PEOPLE and NBC News. Alvarez explained that she had taken their daughter to the restroom during the game. Her husband had offered to take the baby, but she chose to keep their daughter with her. While she was away, she sent Ramses a photo of the stadium food menu and offered to pick something up for them. He told her he would have whichever option had the shortest line.


She eventually returned carrying the food while their daughter remained in the carrier. NBC News reported that Alvarez said her husband had offered to help and that she had told him to eat first. She also explained that she had already eaten before the game, while he had not had a full meal that day.

Alvarez also revealed another detail that was not visible in the viral footage. She said Ramses had recently lost one of his oldest friends. During the game, she noticed him communicating with friends about the loss. That context changed the way she viewed the evening. Rather than seeing the food run as something she had been forced to handle, Alvarez said she wanted her husband to have some time to watch baseball, eat and process what had happened.

“The camera showed what I was carrying in my hands. It couldn’t show what he was carrying that night,” she wrote, according to coverage of her post.
