Will India make a splash at Golden Globes 2023? All eyes on SS Rajamouli's 'RRR'

‘RRR’, Rajamouli’s magnum opus, has become a global phenomenon. Aside from achieving wondrous feats such as minting over Rs 1200 crore worldwide, and selling out tickets at the world’s biggest IMAX theatre in less than 98 seconds, the epic action drama has also garnered praise from the Who’s Who of Hollywood.

Oscar winning-actress Jessica Chastain is the latest Hollywood veteran who has revealed themselves to be an ardent ‘RRR’ fan. The ‘Interstellar’ star took to Twitter to gush about the Rajamouli directorial. “Watching this film was such a party," Chastain wrote, sharing a post on Friday by Variance Films (the official distributor of ‘RRR’ in the US).

One of the most prominent comedians in Hollywood, Danny DeVito has also come out in praise for ‘RRR’. In an interview, the ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ star said, that he loved how desi films kept the story intact. “Like in RRR, it's about the battles between everybody but they keep up the story even in the singing. And I love that aspect of it. I think it's great.”

The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ director lauded the movie on Twitter. He tweeted, "Finally saw @RRRMovie on the big screen at the @BFI with a great crowd. What an absolute blast. So entertaining. The only film I have ever seen where the intermission card itself got a round of applause.”

The ‘Vampire Diaries’ star also showered praises on the Rajamouli film. Taking to Twitter, Morgan called it an “absolute masterpiece” and added he had “laughed and cried and gasped in amazement” while watching the film.

The ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ director was in awe of the gravity-defying stunts and OTTness of the epic action drama. He wrote, “While a lot of the blockbusters we’re making in the states tend to have self-aware, cheeky characters trapped in self-serious filmmaking, RRR was all heart-on-its-sleeve sincerity wrapped up in the most ridiculous over-the-top execution.”

The siblings who have directed mega-hits such as ‘Captain America’, as well as the ‘Avengers’ franchise, also revealed that they were in awe of ‘RRR’. They declared themselves as “huge fans” of S.S Rajamouli.

The ‘Doctor Strange’ director described the movie as “an awesomely outrageous rollercoaster of a movie.”

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director is also a giddy fan of the movie. When asked by a Twitter user if he has seen the movie, he tweeted, “I did. Totally dug it.”

The 80th Golden Globe awards returns after years of controversies and will be live broadcast on Wednesday. For India, the Globes this year are special as SS Rajamouli's epic action drama 'RRR' has bagged nominations in 2 categories: Best Original Song ('Naatu Naatu') and Best Picture - Non-English language.

Big hits such as 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery', 'Babylon' and 'The Banshees of Inisherin' are competing for the top category at the Golden Globe awards, the Best Film in Musical or Comedy title.

While film-maker James Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way of Water' will compete for the 'Best Drama' trophy with 'The Fabelmans' by Steven Spielberg. Tom Cruise-starrer 'Top Gun: Maverick' and Austin Butler's 'Elvis' are also competing for the coveted title.

Indians across the world are excited to see film-maker SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' compete with some big films such as 'Decision to Leave' (South Korea) and 'Close' (Belgium) to win the Best Non-English Language Film.

English actor Daniel Craig is up for the Best Actor title in a musical or comedy film category for his performance in 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery'. He competes with Adam Driver ('White Noise'), Colin Farrell ('The Banshees of Inisherin'), Ralph Fiennes ('The Menu') and Diego Calva ('Babylon').

For the Best Director trophy, acclaimed film-makers James Cameron and Steven Spielberg will be fighting it out for their films 'Avatar: The Way of Water' and 'The Fabelmans', respectively.

Australian actress Margot Robbie is running for the Best Actress in Music or Comedy category for her stellar performance in 'Babylon'. The actress will be competing with Anya Taylor-Joy for her role in 'The Menu'.

Austin Butler, who charmed everyone with his performance in 'Elvis', has been nominated for the Best Actor in Drama category. The actor is competing with Hugh Jackman ('The Son') and Brendan Fraser ('The Whale') for the title.

Hollywood royalty Cate Blanchett has been nominated for the Best Actress title for 'Tár'. Other contenders include Olivia Colman ('The Empire of Light'), Viola Davis ('The Woman King'), Ana de Armas ('Blonde') and Michelle Williams ('The Fabelmans').
