Will 'RRR' strike gold at Golden Globe 2023?
Two years after being boycotted by Hollywood, the Golden Globe Awards is finally returning with a more inclusive nominations list.

This year, director SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR', which made a lifetime box-office collection of Rs 1,200 crore (worldwide), earned two nominations at the controversial awards ceremony.

The Telugu film - which was also released in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam - has been nominated for the Best Picture - Non English and Best Original Song - Motion Picture categories.

In the Best Picture - Non English segment, the blockbuster is competing against the Korean romantic mystery 'Decision To Leave', German anti-war drama 'All Quiet on the Western Front', Argentine historical drama 'Argentina, 1985', and French-Dutch coming-of-age drama 'Close'.

As far as the Best Original Song - Motion Picture category is concerned, the fast-paced Telugu track 'Naatu Naatu', composed by veteran music director MM Keeravaani and penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, is up against Taylor Swift's 'Carolina' from 'Where The Crawdads Sing', 'Ciao Papa' from 'Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio', Lady Gaga's 'Hold My Hand' from 'Top Gun: Maverick' and Rihanna's 'Lift Me Up' from 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'.

'RRR', the first part of the trilogy, is the first Indian film in over two decades to be nominated for awards. Before this, 'Salaam Bombay!' (1988) and 'Monsoon Wedding' (2001), both directed by Mira Nair, were nominated in the Foreign Language Film category (now called Best Picture - Non English category).

The pan-India movie stars Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in the leading roles. Set in pre-Independence, the fictional story is inspired by real-life Indian revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

The official Twitter handle of Golden Globes also shared a sneak peek of the ballroom.

As part of its diversity move, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organisation behind the awards, has put in place reforms and new ethics rules this year. Among roughly 200 current voters, nearly 52 per cent are racially and ethnically diverse, including 10 per cent who are Black.

While Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg will return as organisers of the event, Tom Cruise is expected to give the ceremony a miss. After the 2021 controversy, the 'Top Gun: Maverick' star returned his three Globe trophies in protest.

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael will host the three-hour ceremony, while veteran actor Eddie Murphy will receive a lifetime achievement award. Director Quentin Tarantino and actor Jamie Lee Curtis are listed among the presenters.
