What is Wicker about?

The film is based on Ursula Wills’ short story The Wicker Husband, and tells the story of a lonely fisherwoman (Olivia Colman), living in a conservative seaside medieval village. Her neighbors often ridicule her and treat her badly, so she is becoming more and more isolated.

Tired of the behavior of the community and her lonely life, she asks a local basket maker (played by Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband out of wicker. But things take an unexpected turn when the creation comes to life.

Played by Alexander Skarsgård, the wicker husband turns out to be gentle, affectionate and devoted to her. His presence brings happiness into the fisherwoman's life, but it also makes the villagers jealous. Their own unhappy marriages and resentment towards the couple lead to tension and chaos.
