Why Now?

The Zimbabwean president hosted a party for 20,000 people on his 91st birthday.

Ok….but lavish parties are hosted by politicians globally, even here.

The lunch is said to have cost more than a million dollars.

What did he serve, elephants?

Yes.

Seriously?

Yes. A baby elephant.

What!? ok…what else?

Two buffaloes, two sables and five impalas that were donated to the Zimbabwean president by a local land owner.

Any more interesting details?

A lion and a crocodile that were to be stuffed — purely for display purposes — were also gifted to Mugabe by the same man.

Are you done?

No. Forty cows were also offered to the president by two members of his government.

That's it…right?

A second elephant is also to be shot and given to the Victoria Falls community.

What about cakes…this was a birthday bash, right?

Oh there were…many of them in fact.. they were emblazoned with Mugabe’s portrait and were the size of single mattresses. Mugabe also set free 91 balloons into the air.

Where was this party held?

At a resort by the Victoria Falls called Elephant Hills.

Hope this was a one-off.

Perhaps they need to ban beef — and elephant and impala and sable meat — in Zimbabwe too!
