Why UP governor asking police to find missing hens in indeed commendable

It would be lèse-majesté to assume that the honourable governor of Uttar Pradesh may have been trying to curry favour with local political circles when ordering the relevant authorities to find a dozen missing hens. However, if the bare bones — so to speak — of the case are examined, the chances of finding any vestige of the birds three months after the fowl deed was committed, would be slim indeed. So, this pet humanitarian initiative of the governor appears to have been doomed to fail from the outset. Even if livestock lifters were cowed by the amazing recovery of a prominent UP politician's buffaloes, they would be unlikely to chicken out in this case and hand over the pilfered birds as getting rid of any poultry evidence would be far simpler.

But the governor's proactive stance on the animal rights — extending the duties of the police force to include them in their list instead of focusing solely on law and order and VIP security — must be commended nevertheless. Hopefully, police forces in other states will be egged on by UP's efforts to follow suit, even without prompting from higher-ups. Since new policemen would have to be hired, it will create jobs, too. Of course, there is no guaranteeing that even when it comes to animals, there will not be differences in approach based on their perceived VIP status — or lack thereof.
