Why TripAdvisor's Nikhil Ganju can't get enough of the FitBit Flex and Suunto Ambit2 S

It's important to stay in control at all times, whether you navigate unknown terrains or sweat it out at your local joggers' park, believes Nikhil Ganju, country manager, India, TripAdvisor. The boss of the travel reviews website trusts wearable tech — a FitBit Flex wireless activity tracker synced with his iPhone 6 and the GPS watch Suunto Ambit2 S — to do the job.

A technology and adventure enthusiast, Ganju feels incomplete without the FitBit Flex wireless activity tracker and sleep wristband. He doesn't follow an exercise regimen diligently when he is travelling because his travel plans are usually of the outdoorsy kind. This is when the GPS watch comes to his aid.

"Typically during holidays, I go for a morning run and explore places. Even if I am visiting the hills for 2-3 days, I ensure that I do a day-trek from morning to evening. Sometimes I am not very good with finding my way back. The GPS watch will display the correct route and navigation if I have set the home location," says Ganju.




Recently, he completed the PADI beginner's open water (scuba) diving certification in the Andaman Islands, where his GPS watch worked perfectly under water. The Suunto Ambit2 S can also be fixed to a band that is tied around the chest to measures one's vitals and relays data to the watch.





"Two years ago, I was on a trek to Stok Kangri in Ladakh when the GPS, temperature and the altimeter feature of my watch was of great help. At high altitude I was expected to stay hydrated as we hiked up. I was taking extra precautions because I tend to pick up high altitude sickness," he says.

And technology can also be addictive. After wearable tech, Ganju's next investment is going to be a remotely piloted multifunctional aircraft aka drone. "I am excited to pick up a drone, in a month's time or two. Most likely, it will not have any practical utility to me. Maybe I will take it to the outskirts of the city on a weekend and explore what all it can do," says Ganju. "I want to see if it can keep me interested."
