The researchers say the culprit could be polychlorinated biphenyl, or PCB.

It's a chemical which was earlier used in the making of plastic but was banned by the UN in 2011. Since it travels through waterways, seals consume it, and since seals are the core of polar bears' diet, the latter ingest PCB, too.

Absolutely, they are staring at extinction if something is not done immediately. And this only makes it worse since reproduction is going to be harder for them than before.
