Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Udta Teer has found itself at the eye of the storm. The film, directed by Aakash Kaushik, is ready to arrive on the big screen on October 23. But seems like this spy-comedy action-drama will be skipping the premiere in one city. As per the latest update, Nepal has banned Udta Teer from public screening in the country ahead of its scheduled theatrical release. The decision was taken by Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board. The committee found that the film’s content violates the restrictions in the country’s cinema law.

Nepal denies Udta Teer screening

Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a letter to film distributor National Cine Group Nepal, stating that Udta Teer cannot be screened publicly in the country under Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026, reported India Today.

The letter mentioned that the Central Film Censor Board reviewed Udta Teer based on the material submitted and found out that its content fell under the category which was restricted by the law. This prompted the committee to deny permission for the film’s screening to the audience.

If reports are to be believed, Udta Teer’s plot centres around India-Pakistan tension, shown humorously, and the movie’s core theme is likely to have prompted the censor board’s decision. The ministry, however, has not specified the exact reason for denying the film screening.

Udta Teer plot

For the unversed, Udta Teer centres around Bilal, played by Ayushmann Khurrana. As a Pakistani operative sent to India, he is involved in a devastating explosion. Bilal, however, survives the incident but suffers from memory loss after waking up. As a result, he is deceived by Sara Ali Khan’s character, who tells him that his parents were martyred Indian patriots.

Bilal then assumes the identity of a fierce Indian counter-terrorism officer, embracing his newfound patriotic spirit. Due to memory loss, he turns against his former allies and starts to dismantle Pakistani spy networks. But when a dangerous terrorist infiltrates the borders, Bilal is forced into a high-stakes mission, racing against time.
