Disney has introduced its first Polynesian princess to the world — Moana – the titular character in the movie Moana to be released in 2016.

Moana Waialiki is a spirited teenager with exceptional navigational ability who sets sail on a journey to find a legendary island in the region of Oceania.

Awesome! Can she control the ocean? Is she some sort of a sea goddess?

Sounds like a toughie! What does she look like?

She has got long, dark wavy hair, caramel-hued skin, expressive eyes, and an athletic, toned physique that is a far cry from the typical waify Disney princesses.

Ok, what about the quintessential hero?

Of course, she has a demigod travelling companion named Maui.

And loyal sidekicks?

In true Disney fashion, she’ll be accompanied by some trusty buddies — her pet pig, Pug, and a rooster named Hei Hei.

And the bad guy?

Moana battles ancient creatures which include an incredible character made out of molten lava.
