Why Jack Warner is making headlines

Jack Warner, a former FIFA vice-president claims the charges against FIFA officials are a conspiracy of the US to de-stabilise FIFA.

Why Jack Warner is making headlines
THE FIFA GUY, RIGHT? WASN’T HE INDICTED ON CORRUPTION CHARGES?

Yep, a former FIFA vice-president. But that’s small beer compared to what he did after.

HE MUST HAVE PLEADED INNOCENT.

He did. He posted a video on YouTube and rejected all the charges. Said they were part of a US conspiracy against FIFA.

OF COURSE, HE DID. BIG DEAL.

No doubt, but it was the manner in which he went about it that is hilarious. He mistook a piece in that satirical website to defend himself.

THE ONION, YOU MEAN. OH NO!

Oh yes!

WHAT DID HE DO?

In the video, he refers to an article in The Onion headlined: "FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup In The United States: Global Soccer Tournament To Kick Off In America Later This Afternoon" and asks: "If the FIFA is so bad, why is it that the USA wants to keep the FIFA World Cup?"

HA HA.

But Warner trimmed the reference to The Onion in the video after he became the butt of jokes online.

STILL, THE DAMAGE WAS DONE BY THEN, RIGHT?

Here’s one tweet: “Jack Warner is scanning The Onion for confirmation of this Sepp Blatter [FIFA boss who resigned later] news.” A case of self-defence becoming a selfgoal.

YET ANOTHER PUBLIC FIGURE CONFUSES THE ONION FOR FACT.

Hmm. Warner certainly won’t be the last.

BUT WHO FELL FOR THE ONION THE LAST TIME?

China’s People’s Daily. It ran a 55-image slideshow commemorating Onion’s coronation of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as the 'Sexiest man Alive'.
