Why is everyone getting a 'semicolon tattoo'?

And maybe that's exactly why the mark has been turned into a symbol of hope by Project Semicolon — a non-profit movement aimed at mental health awareness. It is urging people worldwide to get a semicolon inked, temporary or otherwise, to spread hope and love among people who are prone to bouts of depression and tend to harm themselves.

Punctuation tattoos are nothing new — interrobang, quotation marks, ampersand and period have been around for a while now, used alone or in conjunction with other designs. But given its noble aim, this new trend is catching on pretty fast, with images of people with semicolon tattoos flooding social media. So, what say, want to ink a pause and give life a breather?
