About Maha Kumbh Mela 2025
The Maha Kumbh, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, is being celebrated in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. Held every 12 years, this sacred event draws millions of pilgrims to the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the now-extinct Saraswati rivers. Taking a holy dip at this confluence is believed to cleanse one’s sins and pave the way to moksha, or liberation.
This year’s Maha Kumbh Mela is poised to host over 450 million visitors, making it a historic occasion and a monumental event for India. The vast scale of the gathering reflects its immense cultural, religious, and spiritual significance.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the ritual by taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. Shah was joined by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and several prominent saints and sages, adding to the ceremonial grandeur. Their presence underscored the event's significance in the Indian spiritual and cultural landscape.
