Why easter eggs are making headlines
YES! EASTER WISHES TO YOU TOO.
Yeah, but would you fancy eating a 100-year-old Easter egg?

WHAT NOW?
Two chocolate eggs made in the 1920s have been unearthed in England. They are thought to be two of the oldest wrapped chocolate eggs in existence.

YOU MEAN A CENTURY OLD EGG?
Two eggs. Interestingly, the uneaten eggs are in ‘incredible condition’, as the chocolate has not been touched — and they might actually be more appetizing than they sound.

AND WE CAN EAT THOSE?
If you want. But the eggs — a Terry’s chocolate egg and a Rowntree’s egg — aren’t for eating, as they’re extremely rare and will be on display at York Castle Museum.

WHERE WERE THESE EGGS?
There’s a tragic tale behind the Terry’s egg. It was bought for a boy in the 1920s, but the child died before Easter, and the egg was never thrown away. The Rowntree’s Egg was bought by a 14-year-old boy for his mother in 1926, and she kept it as a keepsake.

WHAT ABOUT THE EGGS NOW?
The eggs will be on show at the museum today, as part of its new experience Chocolate: York’s Sweet Past. Alongside these two, other chocolate eggs ranging from 1930s-1980s will be included in the new exhibition. These include a Nestle egg dating 1956.

WOW! THESE ARE EGGS-TRA OLD!
You bet. In 2013, a 500-year-old Easter egg was found in Ukraine. It is with the Junior Rescue Archaeological Service research center of Ukraine now.

I'M UP FOR MY EASTER EGG HUNT NOW.
You can head to the York Castle Museum to check these eggs. But keep in mind, and there's also a note, ‘The eggs are only for the museum and not for consumption!!!’
