Why Abraham Poincheval is making headlines
The one who lived inside a rock?
Yes, the French artist.

What is he up to now?
His performance, Oeuf (Egg), is underway at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

Explain oeuf!
The 44-year-old will mimic a mother hen by incubating 10 eggs with his own body heat inside a glass vivarium until they hatch.

Say what now?
The task requires him to sit inside a glass enclosure atop a nest of 12 eggs nearly nonstop for three weeks.

Isn't this pure bizarre?
Well, scientists say the stunt will likely doom the dozen embryos, preventing them from developing into healthy and full-grown chicks. But Poincheval said that by showing a male figure nurturing embryos to life, he 'raises the question of metamorphosis and gender'.

Yes! pure bizarre.
Poincheval has tweaked his diet to include foods that raise his body temperature. The blanket he's wrapped in is also supposed to make his body hotter.

How is that art?

Well, Poincheval is a performance artist. He specialises in endurancetesting solitary performances and believes the best way to understand objects is not from a distance, but by entering them. He once spent 13 days inside a dead, hollowed-out bear and in 2015, he spent seven days inside a giant glass bottle.

What about the eggs now?
Well, the fate of the unborn chicks will — appropriately — be clear after Easter.
