Who’s richer, who’s richest, rich folks?

The Musk-Bezos duel has been the spectator sport this week — for spectators.

On January 8, Musk had overtaken Bezos to become the world’s wealthiest after Tesla shares rose 8.2%, pushing his net worth to $189.7 billion, past Bezos’ $185 billion.
It’s a pastime of the rich to imagine the elation and misery that supposedly accompany the fortunes and misfortunes of the very, very, very rich.

Such has been the case with watchers of Wealth Wimbledon the last few days, as they have followed the contest for the world’s richest person between Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Tesla’s Elon Musk.

On January 8, Musk had overtaken Bezos to become the world’s wealthiest after Tesla shares rose 8.2%, pushing his net worth to $189.7 billion, past Bezos’ $185 billion.

But the Musketeers’ elation was short-lived as the road (and space) vehicle-maker’s fortune fell by nearly $14 billion three days later on January 11, bringing his net worth down to a ‘So disappointing!’ $176.2 billion, $6 billion behind Bezos’ by-then $182.1 billion.

But then, Fortune flashed an Elongated smile the very next day, when Tesla shares rebounded, bopping Musk’s net worth up to $183.8 billion.

And if Bezosists didn’t feel berozgaar enough, on January 14, Amazon shares fell 1.2%, lowering Bezos’ net worth to $182.8 billion — not good enough even after Tesla shares, too, fell, pushing Musk down to $182.9 billion.
