Whole lotta outrage over Mumbai outage

On Monday morning, Mumbaikars were in for a rude shock — quite the opposite of an electrical one. They woke up to find that their pankhas had ceased rotating, their Wi-Fi bars had disappeared, and their blenders weren’t churning their morning avocado banana smoothies. With the last wheezing gasps of their phone batteries, they decided to throw an epic social media tantrum over this #thirdworldproblem. With Mumbai unplugged for over three hours, the internet was lit with memes at their expense. Instead of sympathy over their powerless predicament, the rest of India indulged in one big schadenfreude (look it up if you don’t know what it means).

Delhiites barely hid their snarky million-megawatt grins as they called it payback for Mumbai Indians defeating Delhi Daredevils the floodlit night before. Other blackout veterans like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar welcomed Mumbai to ‘the dark side’. Sanjay Jha, Bihar water resources minister, tweeted this burn: ‘Mumbai mein batti gul ba, Bihar mein batti full ba. Ee ka ba?’ (Lights went off in Mumbai, in Bihar lights are on full. What is happening?) Mumbaikars found a shoulder to cry on, though, in news channels — with their studios in Mumbai. Not taking the matter lightly was Maharashtra energy minister Nitin Raut, who smelt ‘sabotage’. Guys, lighten up
