Vivek Oberoi opens up about raising his children with humility and without a sense of entitlement.

For actor Vivek Oberoi, parenting is not simply about providing children with comfort and opportunities. It is also about ensuring they understand the value of humility, relationships and personal responsibility. Vivek, along with his wife Priyanka Alva, is raising their children, Vivaan Veer and Ameya Nirvana, with a conscious effort to keep them grounded. He has also spoken about why he does not want privilege to shape their identity or sense of self.

Vivek Oberoi on keeping his children away from entitlement

Vivek Oberoi has been candid about the kind of upbringing he wants for his children. In an interview with B4U Entertainment, the actor spoke about his concerns surrounding entitlement and how growing up with privilege can sometimes influence a person’s attitude. Vivek said he has seen several friends in the industry grow up with a strong sense of entitlement, something he does not want his own children to emulate. He stressed that privilege should not become the foundation of their identity.

According to the actor, a person’s identity should be built around their character rather than their family background or social standing. He believes children should learn to define themselves through their values, friendships, relationships and the contribution they make to society. “To me, one’s sense of identity should come from who you are, your values, your friends, your relationships, and what you contribute to society. It shouldn’t come to the fact that ‘you don’t know who my dad is,’” he said.

Vivek made it clear that this is not the kind of mindset he wants his children to develop. “That’s not the way I want to bring up our children,” he added.

Vivek Oberoi says children learn by watching their parents

For Vivek, raising grounded children also begins at home, particularly with the relationship parents share with each other. Speaking with MensXP, the actor reflected on why he believes parents have an important role in shaping their children’s understanding of love and relationships.

According to Vivek, children closely observe how their parents treat one another and naturally absorb those behaviours. A respectful and loving marriage, therefore, can become an important example for children as they grow up. He explained that when children see their parents treating each other with affection and respect, they begin to understand what a healthy relationship should look like. On the other hand, repeated disrespect can make unhealthy behaviour appear normal to them.

His parenting philosophy is closely linked to his marriage

Vivek also pointed out that having children can change the dynamics of a marriage, adding another layer of responsibility to the relationship. He explained that children learn from how their parents behave with each other. If they regularly witness disrespect, they may grow up believing that such behaviour is acceptable. But when they see love, mutual respect and parents acknowledging and correcting their mistakes, they learn a very different lesson about relationships.
