Star Trek and X-Men actor Patrick Stewart died at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2026. He was 86. His spokesperson said he died after a brief journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia, with his wife, singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell, by his side. The couple married in 2013 after meeting by chance at a Brooklyn restaurant in 2008.

The statement reads as per the Insta post, “We announce with great sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.”

Who is Sunny Ozell, Patrick Stewart’s wife?

Sunny Ozell is an American singer and songwriter from Reno, Nevada. She released her first album, Take It With Me, in 2015. Her second album, Overnight Lows, followed in 2020. She also appeared with her band in an episode of Star Trek: Picard in 2022.

Stewart and Ozell first met in 2008 at Franny’s, a restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, where Ozell was working as a waitress. At the time, Stewart was performing in a stage production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Ozell told him she wanted to watch the play but could not get tickets because it was sold out.

Stewart gave her his phone number and offered to arrange tickets. She later visited him backstage after a performance. They went out for dinner, and their relationship began.

In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Stewart spoke about how much he enjoyed their relationship. He described Ozell as smart and well-informed.

Ozell’s last post on Instagram was with him. On a December 9, 2024, post, she shared pictures from a visit to the Lumen exhibition. She added the caption on the post, “Gettin our Getty on!”

When did Patrick Stewart and Sunny Ozell get married?

The two married in a ceremony in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. X-Men co-star Ian McKellen officiated the ceremony.

However, McKellen’s credentials were not accepted for a legal wedding in Nevada.

Later Stewart spoke on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ as per People, the couple later held another ceremony at a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, with McKellen officiating again. Stewart shared a wedding photo on social media at the time. He captioned it, “Yes, married.”

According to a Reddit thread, 10 years ago, Stewart, then 76, was married to Ozell, who was 38 at the time. People criticized their age gap in the thread.
