Who is Shubhra Shetty? Emotional Anurag Kashyap reveals how 20 years age gap affected his relationship with girlfriend

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and Shubhra Shetty have been together for nearly 11 years, but their relationship has often remained away from the spotlight. The couple recently opened up about their journey in a joint interview with Janice Sequeira. From dealing with their 20 years age gap to keeping their romance private in the early years, the duo shared details about their relationship and how they eventually built a life together.

Anurag Kashyap and Shubhra Shetty's relationship

Anurag Kashyap and Shubhra have an age difference of around 20-21 years. Their relationship first became public nearly a decade ago after the filmmaker shared pictures with Shubhra on Instagram.

Speaking about those early years, Shubhra explained that the two deliberately tried to keep their romance away from the media. She said they would attend parties and events but preferred not to become a subject of public discussion. Their attempts at privacy, however, did not last for long after a journalist reported about their relationship.




Shubhra also spoke about how her parents initially reacted to the relationship. She was around 20 when she started dating Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker, who was considerably older and had already been married twice and had a child. She said her parents had understandable concerns about the relationship but eventually accepted their decision.

The couple now lives in Bengaluru after Kashyap moved away from Mumbai. Their relationship, which began more than a decade ago, has continued despite the public attention surrounding their age difference.

How the age gap affected their relationship

During the interview, Kashyap admitted that he was initially very conscious about the age difference between them. He said, "We've had our share of troubles. Shaming nahi, but self-conscious. At one point I had become so conscious that I tried to push her away. Her face doesn't look her age. So, the more I grow old and she kept looking the same, that's why I was so conscious."

Shubhra revealed, "Because he had seen life and I had not, he was adamant that I go out and if I have to find my way back to him, I would."

Shubhra recalled that Kashyap had been more certain about his feelings from the beginning. She said he expressed his love first but also gave her the freedom to take her time and understand what she wanted from life.

Their relationship eventually grew stronger through shared interests. Kashyap said their bond was built around books, films and festivals. He also noted that Shubhra attended more film festivals than he did.

Looking back, Anurag Kashyap said he eventually became certain that Shubhra was the person he wanted to be with. He recalled a period when she spent an entire shoot with him and said that experience helped him acknowledge what he already felt about their relationship.

Shubhra Shetty has largely maintained a low profile despite being in a long-term relationship with one of Bollywood's most popular filmmakers. As reported by Indian Express, she is in her 30s and has often stayed away from the mainstream media spotlight.
