As Dutee Chand eyes a medal in the 2020 Olympics, she will have a friendly face in the badminton contingent — PV Sindhu. As it turns out, Chand and Sindhu are good friends, having forged a bond after a chance meeting at Pullela Gopichand’s academy in Hyderabad.

The Asian Games double silver medallist told ETPanache, “We are great friends. Sindhu and I met when I started training at the academy for the Rio Olympics.”

Funnily enough, Chand recalled that when they first met, the badminton champion thought she was a new coach. In Rio too, the two would go on runs together. “This was part of Sindhu’s off court training. She gave me a run for my money as she runs very fast and has a lot of stamina,” the sprinter said with a laugh.
