Where to watch The One About Matthew Perry documentary: know release date, streaming platform and what to expect

Matthew Perry made millions of viewers laugh as Chandler Bing on Friends, but the man behind the sitcom's sarcastic humour had a much more complicated life away from the screen. A new documentary is set to explore that side of the late actor, bringing together memories from his family, lifelong friends and people who worked with him. The three-part documentary series, titled The One About Matthew Perry, will look back on Perry's rise to fame, his personal struggles and the legacy he left behind. Here's where to watch it, when it releases and what viewers can expect.

Where To Watch Matthew Perry Documentary?

The One About Matthew Perry is set to stream on Netflix from October 27, 2026. The documentary is scheduled to premiere as a three-part series, with the streaming platform serving as its official home. Viewers in India can also look for the series on Netflix from October 27. Its availability can be checked through the official Netflix title page. The documentary is directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Mary Robertson and produced by Maxine Productions, a part of Sony Pictures Television. It is presented as an in-depth look at Perry's life through the people who knew him beyond his fame as a television star.

What Is The One About Matthew Perry About?

The documentary traces Perry's journey from a rising young performer to one of television's most recognisable comedy stars. It also looks beyond his best-known role as Chandler Bing to explore his relationships, personal challenges and efforts to speak openly about addiction. Netflix describes the series as a portrait of the actor through intimate accounts from family and friends. The project also features unseen photographs and video from the Perry family’s private collection for an intimate look into his life. Rather than focusing only on his death, the series aims to present Perry as a whole person a performer, friend and family member whose life extended well beyond the character audiences knew.

Matthew Perry's Sister And Friends Share Their Memories

One of the documentary's central voices is Perry's younger sister, Mia Perry Bowick. She will speak publicly about her brother and what it was like to love him through the different stages of his life. The series also features longtime friends Roger Castillo and David Pressman, alongside people who worked with Perry during his career. Their accounts are expected to shed light on his early years, rise in Hollywood and relationships outside the entertainment industry.

Director Mary Robertson said the actor's work made audiences feel connected and less alone. She explained that the documentary was created because the public had only seen part of his story. Bowick has similarly expressed hope that viewers will understand her brother beyond his fame as Chandler Bing and his struggles with addiction.

In Loving Memory of Matthew Perry: Beyond Friends

Perry was best known for his role in Friends, which aired from 1994 until 2004 and followed six friends as they dealt with life and relationships in New York City. His character Chandler, with his quick wit and self-deprecating humour, helped make the sitcom a worldwide sensation.

Away from acting, Perry spoke publicly about his long struggle with addiction and became an advocate for people dealing with substance-use disorders. He died in October 2023 at the age of 54. The medical examiner attributed his death to the acute effects of ketamine, with other contributing factors also noted. The One About Matthew Perry revisits that difficult chapter while also looking at his friendships, humour and the impact he had on people who knew him. For fans who remember him primarily as Chandler, the series offers an opportunity to discover more about the person behind the punchlines through the people who knew him best.
