When will Bollywood collaborate with Hollywood, asks Rana Kapoor to Shah Rukh Khan

It's not often that you see the organiser of an event pose a challenge to its celebrity guest. But that's what happened when Yes Bank CEO Rana Kapoor threw down the gauntlet at Shah Rukh Khan at the Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) function held at a luxury hotel in Mumbai this week.

Kapoor asked SRK how he would counter the Chinese film industry and take Bollywood to new heights. The question cropped up as part of Kapoor's speech, where he alluded to the fact that the Chinese film industry has collaborated with Hollywood despite language barriers and that while they were not making a lot of profit, they were still creating immense brand value.

Predictably, Khan had a witty rejoinder. Speaking gibberish with a Chinese twang, the star said, "I have responded to the challenge to the Chinese. You will not understand it, but they will get what I said." Videocon's Venugopal Dhoot, also present at the event, had warm words for Khan. "He's like family. For me, he practically owns Videocon," he told the audience, as SRK grinned.

The event was for the unveiling of ASSOCHAM's knowledge report on digitisation and the mobility of media and entertainment. Interestingly, this is the first time that the industry body has released its knowledge report as a coffee table book.
