Olympic double medallist Sushil Kumar has had an uneventful 2018. And while he is now training hard to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the wrestler spoke about the pressure he’s always been under — right from the 2012 London Olympics. One of the reasons he felt more pressure in London was because he was asked to be the flag bearer.

“When I was selected to carry the country’s flag, it was a huge honour. However, someone told me that historically flag bearers end up winning no medals at the Olympics. That scared me. I had a very tough 15 days till my game,” he said.

While Kumar added that he’s not superstitious, this information freaked him out. However, his fears were unwarranted, given the silver medal he won. “I went through a taxing time, but thanks to the support from my coach and family, I was able to change this assumption,” he said, with a laugh.
