It's is a well-known fact that Sachin Tendulkar owned his first BMW in 1993 and has been with the brand through some of their major launches in the past few years, including the hybrid i8. So, last week when the cricketer visited BMW's Chennai plant, in a city where he scored lots of runs, it was more than just to drive the car. Tendulkar assembled a BMW 5 Series car at the plant's assembly lines.

He connected the propeller shaft to the transmission, the engine to the chassis and the wishbone to the control arm, among other things. Towards the end, he remarked, "I will soon be an expert in this."

Tendulkar had the assistance of some engineers as he worked the tools, but he is deeply knowledgeable about the cars. Robert Frittrang, Managing Director, BMW Chennai Plant, asked Tendulkar if he knew how many parts make up a BMW 5-Series car. "2,800," he correctly answered.

In line with the Modi government's Make in India campaign, BMW is emphasising on 50 per cent local content in the cars' assembly at this plant. But going by his engineering skills, one might see a Sachin Tendulkar special edition car too.
