When Michelle Poonawalla created a butterfly-themed artwork for Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev discovered Michelle Poonawalla’s work when the two teamed up to create an artwork a couple of months ago. The work was auctioned later, with the proceeds going towards an NGO founded by the former cricketer.

He was so impressed with her work at the time, that he asked Poonawalla to create something especially for him. Naturally, the work celebrated the motif Poonawalla loves best: the butterfly. “He wanted butterflies put together in the shape of a butterfly. His work is ready and he’s said that he’ll come to Pune and collect it,” she said.

The work is quite different from what Dev would personally create if he must take a turn at the canvas: a scene out of village life which he says inspires him to relax. “I have done art, but I am not very good at it. If I had to paint something, it would be difficult to say what I should do. But I would paint mountains, rivers and pictures of happy, rustic life. It would be fantastic,” he said in an earlier interview with ETPanache.
